Something Special

Hi friends,

Happy Wednesday! I’m super excited to share about something really fun that’s happening. For a limited time, when you pre-order The Killing Tide, you get some awesome goodies. The first two-hundred people will get an adorable anchor keychain and collapsible, Coastal Guardians, water bottled along with even more goodies. For everyone after the first two hundred there are still lots of goodies for you. And, the great part? Ten percent of my profits will be donated to the Coast Guard Foundation.

Why did I pick this particular foundation? Because of the amazing work they are doing.

The Coast Guard Foundation’s Mission is to:

In times of triumph and through adversity, the Coast Guard Foundation:

coast-guard-foundation.jpg

Who are the men and women behind the Coast Guard Foundation?

Their founding directors were Coast Guard veterans who served together during World War II.

The founders, who enjoyed successful careers after their military service, saw that the Coast Guard Academy's operate budget wasn't fully covering all of its needs, and they started the Foundation to provide funds that could make up the difference.

In 1986, the Foundation expanded its charter to support projects that enhance the education, welfare, and morale of all Coast Guard members and their families.

Since the expansion of their mission, the Foundation has provided millions of dollars in college scholarships to dependents of Coast Guard personnel, and their morale initiatives have supplied exercise equipment, learning materials, computers, and more to thousands of cutters, bases, and units across the country.

To learn more, visit their website here: Coast Guard Foundation

I’m so honored to partner with the Foundation as The Killing Tide, and all the upcoming books in my Coastal Guardian series, feature the Coast Guard Investigative Service. It has been such a privilege learning about the men and women serving our country in the Guard and as part of CGIS. Hope you’ll enjoy Finn and Gabby’s adventure in the Killing Tide.

BOOK Overview

When one Coast Guard officer is found dead and another goes missing, Coast Guard Investigative Service special agent Finn Walker faces his most dangerous crime yet. His only clues are what little evidence remains aboard the dead officer's boat, and the direction the clues point to will test Finn and the Guard to their limits.

When investigative reporter--and Finn's boss's sister--Gabby Rowley arrives, her unrelenting questions complicate an already volatile situation. Now that she's back, the tug on Finn's heart is strong, but with the risks she's taking for her next big story, he fears she might not live through it.

Thrown together by the heinous crime, Finn and Gabby can't ignore the sparks or judgments flying between them. But will they be able to see past their preconceptions long enough to track down an elusive killer, or will they become his next mark?

Monday Cuppa--Expedition: Still Life Begins!

Happy Monday, friends!

I am SO excited to kick off Expedition: Still Life today!

What is Expedition: Still Life?

I'm so glad you asked. Expedition: Still Life is a fantastically fun adventure with two blog stops every Tuesday and Thursday throughout April where you can learn about a location from my latest release, Still Life. At each stop you'll be able to enter that particluar blog's gift card giveaway (gift cards vary from Starbucks to Amazon to Barnes & Noble), as well as collecting a custom designed virtual passport stamp, which enters you to win the Grand Prize. Each Expedition stamp you collect at my favorite blog location stops earns you another entry for the Grand Prize.

Where are this week's stops?

On Tuesday 4/4 we'll be journeying to Charm City via Heidi Reads blog. Why I love Heidi's blog? It starts with Heidi herself. She is warm, caring and super supportive. She's actually the second place winner of my recent Still Life Photo contest with her on location pic at an art museum. Way to go the extra mile! In addition, Heidi maintains an awesome blog where she reviews a plethora of Christian fiction. Thanks, Heidi. Honored to be on your blog this week.

On Thursday 4/6 we'll be journeying to Parker Mitchell's neighborhood on Mocha with Linda's blog. Why I adore Linda? What's not to adore about Linda. I had the privilege and joy of meeting Linda in person when she was kind enough to interview a fairly brand new writer about her debut novel. Thanks, Linda! Honored to be on your blog this week.

What is the Grand Prize?

Since we’re spending the month on Expedition, the grand prize is an Expedition: Still Life vintage leather travel tote full of locally-procured goodies (and some of the Chesapeake Valor gang’s favorites) to help you travel in coordinated style. It includes the following:

  • Autographed copy of Still Life (to read on your next trip)
  • Still Life Tote Bag (for carrying around all your sightseeing gear)
  • Still Life Disposable Camera (to take pictures of your travels)
  • Still Life Magnetic Picture Frame (to share your travel pics on your fridge)
  • Milk Makeup Sleep Mask & Cooling Gel Insert (to help you rest and keep your eyes looking refreshed)

To celebrate its release on ebook as a stand alone novella, I'm offering Shadowed's Super Groovy 70's Sweepstakes. Why the 70's? Because it's the story of the McKenna parents and it takes place in the summer of 1979.

Readers, I have some shocking news for you, something that’s never happened before. Take a look at the letter below that I received in the mail, just before the launch of Sins of the Past--my novella with Lynette Eason and Dee Henderson. ransomnote1

Enclosed with the note was a list of profiles of Lynette's and Dee's, and my characters. Apparently Anonymous has been stalking our books for quite some time. I can only assume the “clues” Anonymous promised to reveal will help rule out some of the characters below.

What Can You Do?

Amy Green, the fiction publicist at Bethany House, is appointing herself the investigative lead on this mystery, but she can’t do it alone. It’ll take a team to solve the mystery, rescue the character, and bring the kidnapper to justice. That’s why I'm asking you, dear readers, to join us. Lynette, Dee, and I  already recruited the help of bookstore owners and book review bloggers to help us find clues to determine which character is being held hostage and how we can rescue him or her. The stops on the tour are listed below. Make sure you don’t miss a single step of the investigation!

Clues will be revealed at each stop to help you figure out which character has been kidnapped. (If you can’t make it in person to the bookstore events, don’t worry—Lynette and I will post the clue from the events on our Facebook pages within 24 hours of the event.)

Monday Cuppa Moment 7/13

Happy Monday! Look at the adorable sign my daughter bought me this week: FullSizeRender

She definitely knows the way to her mom's heart :D

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We spent most of it with our family and loved the joy our grandson always brings. I also started on my novella project. Just in case you missed the announcement on my FB Page, I'm going to share here:

I'm beyond ECSTATIC to announce I'll be doing a novella collection with the amazing Dee Henderson and Lynette Eason called SINS OF THE PAST, which will release May 2016. I'm a so honored and humbled to be able to work on a collection with two women I so greatly admire.

My novella is titled SHADOWED: An Alaskan Courage novel. Yes, that's right. It's part of my Alaskan Courage collection with a twist. Here's a sneak peak:

d3a02bcf86405cc383949b4cd0af1583 Dani Pettrey returns to Yancey, Alaska, introducing readers to the parents of her beloved McKenna clan. Adventure, romance, and danger collide when a young fisherman nets the body of a open water swimming competitor and possible Russian defector. Turning to a college friend of the woman, the two begin to try and solve her death.

What excites or interests you most about the project?

Blessings,

Love Well

Hi Friends, I hope you’re having a great week. It’s so hard to believe we’re into February. In fact, next week is the most romantic holiday of all—Valentine’s Day. To celebrate, I’ve joined forces with some awesome romance author friends to do a special LOVING WELL giveaway.

Valentinesbanner

Today I’ll be sharing about Loving Kids Well. These can be your own children, your grandchildren, your nieces and nephews, or simply kids you interact with on a regular basis. Children are a blessing from the Lord and they deserved to be loved and cherished. Here are 8 Ways to Love Kids Well:

  • Spend Time With Them—The number one way you can show kids you love them is by investing in their lives. We’re all so busy these days. Take time to give your child or the children in your life undivided attention.

c277610260a795c4a5a8f9035af6ce4a

  • Listen—Kids love to talk and are very open about what’s important to them. Give them the opportunity to share and really listen to what they are saying.

  • Have Fun—Life can be busy, but it’s important to give kids time to be kids. Put on music and dance around together. Stare at clouds and see what find shapes you can find. Bake a cake. Laugh.

e1a29e552d75ad2d2406d2f9a8f688b3

  • Encourage—Everyone needs encouragement. Kids are no different. Find ways to encourage them each day. Leave a note for them saying they’re special in their lunch box, on the bathroom mirror in shaving cream, or on a post-it note by their bed.

  • Exhibit Qualities You Want Them To Learn—Kids learn best by example. Teach your kids the Fruits of the Spirit by exhibiting them in your life. Be loving, kind, joyful, patient, faithful and gentle with them.

  • Appreciate That God Made Them Unique—God made us all unique. Don’t fall into the trap of comparing your child to others, even siblings. God created each of us in our mother’s womb. He knit us together. Let your child/grandchild/niece know you’re so thankful for the special and unique person God created them to be.

637d95adcc16dbd2d6999f74724c8f18

  • Share Jesus With Them—The most important way you can love your child well is to share Jesus with him or her. Spend time in pray, read God’s Word, tell them how much Jesus loves them.

Be sure to visit each of the Valentine’s Giveaway blog stops and you’ll be able to collect a word on each page that will add up to a ‘secret sentence’ by the final stop.  Enter the sentence into the entry box at the final stop and be entered to win a special prize.

My word is SHE.

Fill in the Blank Contest Finalists

Thank you to everyone who entered the Fill in the Blank contest! You guys are awesome! Becky and I had a fabulous time reading all your creative and hilarious entries. It was so hard narrowing it down to three finalists. Seriously. Hard. But we've done it. As a quick reminder here's the excerpt we used from Meant To Be Mine by Becky Wade: fillintheblank

There he was.

She forgot how to ___(1. verb)___.

He was striding down the sidewalk towards her, a few shops away and closing, looking up, probably to find the sign that said ___(2.   )___.

She'd anticipated that he'd look handsome. But 'handsome' was something you might say about a ___(3. noun)___ in a magazine ad; it was too stiff and flat an adjective for Ty Porter.

Ty Porter had the kind of appeal that pulled your gaze to him and wouldn't let you look away. She sensed women's jaws dropping, cars narrowly missing head-on collisions, pictures being taken without his permission and texted to girlfriends.

Anger gathered in her throat.

___(4. noun)___ shaded his eyes. A ray of sun caught and shimmered in his hair, which had been expertly cut just like always. He wore a soft-looking, thin, not too tight but not too loose, beige t-shirt that advertised a custom motorcycle shop in brown letters. He'd pushed a handful of the front of the shirt into his jeans. The square-tipped alligator cowboy boots pounding the sidewalk must be a newer cousin to the pair she remembered.

He stopped at Jana's entrance and scanned the tables. She knew the moment he spotted her because she could literally hear it, like a ___(5. noun)___ ___(6. verb ending in -ing)___.

The three finalists for the Meant To Be Mine giveaway are….

  • Erynn Reconnu N.

1. undulate 2. No llamas 3. yarmulke 4. A unibrow 5. Bigfoot 6. spelunking

  • JustinLindsey G.

1. Stop, drop, and roll 2. "meet the woman who is as mad as someone who got dumped by a cowboy, went to the dentist, and stepped on legos all in one day here" 3. Husband cleaning the whole house 4. Princess sunglasses 5. Fireworks display at the library 6. Lighting up the sky

  • Tari Thompson F.

1. Yodel 2. Hair Club for Men 3. Chihuahua in a Ralph Lauren Sweater 4. Plastic visor 5. Seam 6. Ripping in her pantsCongratulations Erynn, JustinLindsey, and Tari!!!!

Now it's up to YOU (all my wonderful readers) to pick the winner. Yes, you get to pick the winner. Leave a comment below with your choice of top place  and I'll tally the votes and post the winner tomorrow night by 10 pm EST. The first place winner will receive an autographed copy of MTBM along with a $25 Visa gift card; second and third place finalists will each receive an autographed copy of MTBM.

Curious who the Silenced finalists are? Hop over to Becky's blog or Facebook Page to find out and vote!

Thanks so very much!

Blessings, Dani

Thank you again for participating, and for your love for Jake and Kayden. I hope you'll enjoy reading their story as much as I loved writing it.

May God bless you in all your adventures,

The Mountains Are Calling...

Silenced by Dani PettreyIt's coming! Kayden & Jake's story is coming! As I write this, my awesome team at Bethany House is getting ready to send out review copies of Silenced to influencers, and there are only 40 days left until the book hits store shelves.

I'm so excited about this, I can hardly stand it. Not just because I finally get to share more of Jake's history (and Kayden's) with you, but because this story is one of my absolute favorites in the series.

Okay, yes, they're all my favorites, but still. I really love this one :)

Over the next month or so, I will be posting all kinds of fun content to celebrate the book, including a sample chapter, character dossiers, a (dreamy!) music playlist, Pinterest boards, giveaways, and more.

Some of these posts will go live here on my web site, some on Facebook, some on Twitter, some on Pinterest, and some in my Newsletter. So if you don't already follow me on these channels, now might be a good time to start.

Comment to Win

To kick off the celebration, this week I'm giving you the chance to win one of these limited-edition shirts:

Win a Limited Edition Mountains Are Calling Shirt from Sevenly! That's right.  I have two, limited-edition Sevenly shirts to give away, featuring a quote from the poet outdoorsman, John Muir.  I have one LARGE women's flowy dolman (seen on the model on the left), and one X-LARGE men's baseball raglan (seen on the model on the right).

If you haven't heard of Sevenly before, you can click to learn more about their awesome company.  Every week, they team up with a different charity. They create custom shirt designs that are only available for that week and then are gone forever, and they donate $7 from every shirt sale to that week's charity.

Since Kayden & Jake's story features mountain climbing, I thought these shirts, and the wonderful quote on them, would be perfect for you.

How to Enter

To enter, leave a comment below and tell me what you're most looking forward to about Silenced.  Learning more about Jake's backstory?  Discovering what makes Kayden tick?  Cole & Bailey's wedding?  Something else?  I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I'll pick two winners from everyone who comments, using a random number generator, and announce the names of the winners next week.

It's almost Spring!

It's hard to believe spring will be here in only four more days, especially because of the six inches of snow we got last night, but I refuse to be daunted. Spring will come Friday regardless of snowstorms and frightening temperatures. Okay, maybe not frightening, but for a girl who loves eighty degrees, anything under sixty feels cold to me. I live in the wrong climate, clearly. I'm not the only one who feels this way. Dani Pettrey, Katie Ganshert, Becky Wade, Lynette Eason, Ronie Kendig, Rachel HauckFive fabulous author friends have banded together with me to help celebrate the arrival of spring with our Spring Into Romance Giveaway. Haven't had a chance to enter yet? Don't worry, you can read all about it and enter here. We're each giving away an autographed book and a fun spring treat…which got me thinking about everything I love about springtime, and I decided to ask my friends to chime in. Would love to hear about your springtime favorites in the comments section. Let's get this spring discussion going!

  • What scent or fragrance most reminds you of spring, Katie?

Katie Ganshert: Nothing says spring like the smell of lilacs! Growing up, I had a lilac bush right outside my bedroom window. After a long, cold winter, I loved opening my window and enjoying the fresh, sweet smell of the purple and pink flowers outside.

Dani: Ooh. I love the sweet fragrance of lilacs. I'd have to say my favorite spring scent is the freshness in the air. There's something about the combination of blooming flowers, newly cut grass and soft rainstorms that combine into a newness that I adore.

  • What's your favorite spring time treat, Becky?

Becky Wade: Frozen yogurt!  My kids and I love this cute little shop here in Dallas called 'I Heart Yogurt'.  They let you fill your own yogurt bowl and then add toppings to it buffet-line style.  Every time we go, I try to keep a close eye on my kids while they're helping themselves to yogurt.  Because there are three of them, however, someone inevitably slips past my attention and gives themselves an extra huge serving.  My springtime favorite frozen yogurt and topping combo: Tahitian Vanilla yogurt with granola, mini chocolate chips, and strawberries on top.

Dani: Becky, you are making my mouth water. That sounds delicious! Our favorite spring treat is Rita's Italian Ice. They give out free ice on the first day of spring. It's a great way to ring in the new season.

  • If you could go anywhere on a springtime getaway, Lynette, where would you go and why?

Lynette Eason: Unfortunately spring and I don't get along. LOL. With it comes allergies, a stuffy nose and itchy eyes. HOWEVER, I do enjoy the warmer weather and letting my kids play outside. So, I guess if I could go anywhere on a spring vacation getaway, I would choose to go someplace like Belize! Why? Because I've never been there and it looks fabulous!

Dani: Belize does look fabulous! I think I'd go with the Florida Keys. Key West is gorgeous and there are so many adventures to be had.

  • What's your favorite springtime wardrobe item or accessory, Ronie?

Ronie Kendig: My favorite wardrobe item for spring are capris! I love wearing them because they are airy enough not to be stifling, but they also hide my ultra-white Irish skin (for the most part) so friends don't have to wear glare-resistant sunglasses around me.

Dani: LOL! That Irish skin can be delicate :) My favorite wardrobe item is a black knit skirt I bought a few years ago at Old Navy. It's super cute and comfortable--my favorite combination.

  • What about spring do you look most forward to, Rachel?

Rachel Hauck:  In Florida, the weather is so amazing. Bright, sunny, breezy. The best.

Dani: Wearing flip-flops! Wish I could live in them year round.

What about you? I would love to hear you all weigh in on some of these questions.

Blessings,

Christmas Giveaway!

Hoping everyone is getting ready to celebrate Christmas! I'm so grateful for the birth of my Savior and the Lord's blessings in my life and that includes all of you. Yes, you! I'm so grateful for my readers. You are amazing, and in the spirit of spreading the love this Christmas, I'm giving away a copy of any of my books (winner's choice) each day this week--Monday, December 16th through Friday, December 20th.

Here's how it will work. Each day I'll post here and on my Facebook Page about the giveaway. Leave a comment either place and you'll automatically be entered. The following day's post will contain the winner's name and the winner can contact me with his or her choice of book (Submerged, Shattered or Stranded).

A special recipe, a McKenna family favorite or mine, will accompany each post, so get ready for some fun treats and prizes! Thanks again for your amazing support. Here's a recipe to get you started:

Want to learn a little about my family Christmas traditions and get a glimpse at the McKennas'? Check out my guest post on the Bethany House Fiction Blog.

A special thank you to all who voted for one of the Alaskan Courage Men in the Fiction Hero Features contest. I'm pleased to announce Landon Grainger won Hero of the Year with Gage McKenna coming in a pretty close second. Thank you for taking the time to vote.

If you haven't heard, Shattered is up for Book of the Year and this blog is up for Blog of the Year--both at www.bookfun.org if you'd like to vote (just scroll down and look on the lefthand side).

Thanks again for your support. I pray you all have a very Merry Christmas! Be sure to drop by here or my FB Author Page everyday this week for a chance to win.

Blessings,
